What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Went on a cruise, witnessed the birth of my godchild, had to evacuate my home due to Hurricane Gustav, enjoy a wedding anniversary, visit new york with chad, call a plumber, start a business, play in the snow in front of my house, rescued a dog from a shelter, went to lunch at commander's palace, went to Bourbon with my mom and aunt on Mardi Gras day, say goodbye to two good friends who are moving away.
Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I have never made and probably won't make new years resolutions. I think they are meaningless and that's why no one sticks to them.
Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, my cousin! And I was there to see it! Also, my friend Vickie.
Did anyone close to you die? Unfortunately, my uncle Jerry in November.
What countries did you visit? Mexico (Cozumel and Progreso)
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? I can't think of anything major that I lacked in 2008.
What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? I have a horrible memory and 2008 seemed to literallly pass me up too quickly. But July 16, 2008 made one year since I've worked at my current job. Of course Nov. 24, 2008 was our one year anniversary which we celebrated in New York.
Did you suffer illness or injury? No not really. I found out I must suffer from allergies in the beginning part of the year and ever since I started the stupid nose spray I haven't been sick like that again.
What was the best thing you bought? I guess my dog. We also bought a bunch of stuff for our house but I can't remember now if that was in 07 or 08. Our 61" TV, stainless steel refrigerator, couch, bedroom furniture... those were all pretty nice things.
Where did most of your money go? Our house and stuff for the house, definitely!!! Maintenance, repairs, home decor. It's endless.
What did you get really, really, really excited about? I was so excited about the cruise with my family before we went on it, and I was kind of disappointed. So that sucked. I was excited about seeing Conan O'Brien in NY. That did not disapoint though!! Love him! I also got very excited when we got our first order on handbagbug.com!
What song will always remind you of 2008? Songs that were featured on SNL... like "Jizz in My Pants!" and All the Single Ladies, Beyonce. Woah oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh ohhhhhhhh...
Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer? Happier. No doubt about it. I feel so lucky to have this life, with a great husband, nice house, decent job. When I come home after work I just feel really glad to be right where I am (on the couch.) :o) Fatter. It's not much but I've gained 5 solid pounds since last year and it sucks. But since I am a lazy ass, it's not to the point where I feel compelled to do anything about it yet. Both richer and poorer. Richer because now we have combined incomes so it seems like we make a lot. But definitely poorer because of our beautiful little old house and the money pit that it has become.
What do you wish you'd done more of? Spend time with family. It's hard being married and balancing this life, with friends and social life, and both of our families. It's like we are operating as one person and have to split our time among each friend and family member equally. I can't just go do what I want, when I want so I often feel like I've shorted one group or another with my time.
What do you wish you'd done less of? Worry in general. I worry and stress about everything possible. I'm a nervous/anxious person so it's hard to just chill out.
How did you spend Christmas? Christmas Eve this year was MY thing. I had everyone over to our house, cooked and planned everything myself. It was exhausting but enjoyable. I think I've set a precedent/new tradition which is a good and bad thing! Christmas Day we went to church with my side of the family (each year we are trying to alternate it) and then went to my cousin's for lunch and then Chad's side of the family for dinner.
Did you fall in love in 2008? There are things Chad does or revelations I have about him that make me love him more all the time! (Awwww) I also decided to love my dog. She was really hard to deal with at first and we werent's ure we could keep her, but I'm glad we did.
How many one-night stands? I'm not that kinda girl.
What was your favorite TV program? UGH oh my god - TRUE BLOOD on HBO. And we love love love Dexter on Showtime. It makes Sunday nights so much better.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? My boss.
What was the best book you read? I have not read any books this year. I know it's sad.
What was your greatest musical discovery? I always feel like such a weirdo when the subject of music comes up, but I have never been that into popular music or keeping up with the latest stuff. I listen to WWL talk radio in the mornings on my way to work for pete's sake! and occassionaly switch to B97 at a commercial. If it weren't for Chad, I wouldn't really know what the newest music was because he listens to it or downloads it.... When I go out, which is kind of rare, I always feel dumb because I have no idea what that rap song is that everyone gets so excited about dancing to. Oh well.
What did you want and get? I really feel like I have this new, improved life. I feel grown up. I just love it.
What did you want and not get? A substantial, deserved raise and/or bonus. I was promised something that I did not receive, even though I lived up and exceeded what was expected of me. I'm pretty bitter about that.
What was your favorite film of this year? This is always hard for me because I love movies and can't ever pick just one. I don't even remember what I saw in the beginning of the year. I loved the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We had just gone to the french quarter earlier that same day and the scenes of new orleans in that movie are just magical. And it's a real tangible magic that you can feel. They filmed a lot at Audubon Park where I had my bridal pictures taken and I was so happy and excited to see all of that in the movie. Plus I love Brad Pitt and the story was beautiful.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Wow. Ok this is going to take some thought. I turned 24 on January 17th.... what did I doo?? Ok yes, I remember. I went to dinner at Gimchi with my new friends from work and old friends from college. The new friends stuck around to have cake, drink, and play board games with me after, while some of my old friends ditched me. That was a pretty defining moment for the fall of the old friendships I think. Chad bought me diamond earrings on my bday this year and then upgraded them to even bigger diamonds this year for my christmas present. He's so wonderful. :)
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Immeasurably more satisfying? Wow ummm... nothing.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? LOL! Non-existent. I wear jeans, tshirts and flip flops every day to work.
What kept you sane? Chad when life got stressful. My mom when Chad stressed me out. My co-workers when work got stressful.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I'm always interested in what Angie and Brad are up to, but I read all celeb gossip and love it.
What political issue stirred you the most? A couple things. Locally, I was pissed about the legislative pay raises. I was pissed about the mortgage crisis / wall street bail out too. And last but not least, the presidential election was obviously interesting.
Who did you miss? I miss Richie when I don't see him for long periods of time. Oh yeah - Chad went away for like 1/2 a day on a business trip and I missed him! Since we got married we had never spent a night apart so it was weird!! Obvsiouly I wish my grandmother were here. And I always feel that I miss Chad's dad even though I never met him. It's this nagging thought... what if he were here? How would things be different? Would he like me?
Who was the best new person you met? My godchild Sloane of course!
